Serbian tennis pro Novak Djokovic won the Miami Open for the third consecutive year on April 3, 2016. This gives him a record 28th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown. Currently world number one, Djokovic earned his 63rd tour-level title, which moves him to within one win of tying tennis greats Pete Sampras and Bjorn Borg for sixth place in the Open Era leaders.
Other notable achievements with this victory include passing his coach Boris Becker for 11th place on the Open Era match win list with a total of 714 wins. He also surpassed Roger Federer as the all-time prize money leader on the ATP World Tour.
