With a victory over Serena Williams in the BNP Paribas Open final, Victoria Azarenka's superb start to the year continues. After five matches where she hadn't even dropped a set, the beaten finalist and still world number one, Serena Williams, managed to win just one of 10 break point chances, and delivered a truly surprising 33 unforced errors.
Meanwhile Azarenka, in winning 6-4, 6-4, won an amazing 86% of her first serve points and thus secured a second title at this venue. Serena, back on court here in a final for the first time in 15 years, was as gracious a loser as ever, thanking the always-enthusiastic fans for their cheers. As a result of her win, Victoria secures a top 10 ranking for the first time in almost two years.
